Read-A-Thon

Let’s raise $7,000 for young readers in Uganda!

NITEO Read-A-Thon 2023

February 3 – 9, 2023.

“How can they read what they do not have?”

Suzan Kituyi, Ugandan Educator.

Many of us grew up surrounded by books and endless opportunities to read. However, this is not the case for everyone. Access to books is not equal around the globe. Suzan Kituya, a teacher in Uganda, shared with Antonia, NITEO Executive Director, how her rotary district organized a literacy training for teachers from 15 schools. However, there were not enough books to send back with all of the schools. Only 2 schools left with books for their schools. Teachers from the 13 remaining schools had to return back to their classrooms with no books for their students to read. This is just one of many examples of literacy inequity in our global village.

NITEO Africa exists to support young readers to develop the literacy skills needed to build bright & hopeful futures.

One of the ways we do this is to collect gently used books to send to partner organizations & schools in Uganda to supply libraries and reduce literacy equity.

This February we’ve set a goal of raising $10,000 through our Read-A-Thon.

$10,000 to support our work of supplying community and school libraries so that children can gain the literacy skills needed to build bright and hopeful futures.

We need your help to do this!

It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3 – 4.

1) Sign up by creating an Individual or Team Fundraising Page and set a reading and fundraising goal! NiteoRead-A-Thon.

2) Invite friends & family to support you to reach your goal. Friends and family can join you by reading & fundraising with you or donating to your page.

3) Pick up a book to read as many pages/minutes as possible over 7 days (February 3 – 9, 2023).
