NITEO Africa is a registered nonprofit with a vision for building bright and hopeful futures for children and families through the gift of literacy.
1. Use of this platform
You are granted permission to use NITEO Africa’s website and/or subscribe to any of our services only if you:
- are 18 and older
- comply with these terms and all applicable policies
- use NITEO Africa’s Micro-credential Learning Portal for personal and non-commercial use only. You may not use the website for any other purpose, including any commercial purpose, without our express prior written consent
- agree not to copy, distribute, or reproduce any content or materials from the platform without our express written permission
2. Intellectual Property
All content and materials on the website, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, images, and software, are the intellectual property of NITEO Africa (except for where the source is cited) and are protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or otherwise use any of our content or materials without our express prior written consent.
3. User Content
You are responsible for any content that you post on the website, including comments and messages. You may not post any content that is offensive, defamatory or violates any applicable law. NITEO reserves the right to remove any user content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms of Service.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
NITEO’s resources are provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the website will be error-free or that access to the website will be uninterrupted. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the website at any time without notice.
6. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall NITEO Africa, its directors, officers, employees, or agents be liable to you or any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the website or these Terms of Service.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless NITEO Africa, its directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from or related to your use of the website or any breach of these Terms of Service.
8. Governing Law:
Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of British Columbia, Canada without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law.
9. Modifications to Terms of Service
NITEO Africa may modify these Terms of Service at any time, and such modifications shall be effective immediately upon posting the modified Terms of Service on the website. Your continued use of the website after any such modification constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms of Service.

What personal information do we collect?
Our third-party vendors collect certain information regarding your use of www.niteo.org, such as your IP address and browser type. Your session and the pages you visit on www.niteo.org will be tracked, but you will remain anonymous. We may use your IP address to identify the general geographic area from which you are accessing www.niteo.org. We connect data from different systems but do not link IP addresses to personal information. We may also collect other information as described in this policy.
Why do we collect it?
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form and the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
How is this information collected, and how can you opt out?

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves similarly as if the visitor has visited the other website. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.
Analytics: Who we share your data with and how long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Users who register on our website (if any) also store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Submitted assignments, comments and reviews
Only our NITEO staff and team members have access to your submissions. Your assignments are automatically deleted from our platform after it’s been graded. Your ideas and submission will not be shared or exported from our platform in any circumstances. We encourage users to also protect their intellectual properties using legal means available to them in their country. Your course reviews are publicly displayed on our website and they might be used for marketing purposes.
